Digital Streets reports that OutTwit will let you update Twitter from Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007. While I like the idea of being able to Twitter from every application, I’m not sure we actually need that level of access to Twitter. However, for those who live in their email clients, I can see the benefit.

Search Twitter - Again

posted in Mashups & APIs on 09/28/07 at 10:09 PM

Seems that searching twitter, or tweets in this case, is getting pretty popular. It’s still useful and amazing that Twitter doesn’t have it already, really.

TwitterNotes is the perfect mashup for Twitter, if you ask me. For a while now, I’ve had a note scrawled on an index card that says “figure out how to use Twitter as a “notes to self” solution”. While hosted solutions aren’t my favorite, this one is really simple and works pretty well. I will most certainly be using this handy little service.

Snitter is the latest Twitter client to hit the “scene” and this one is using Adobe’s AIR, which I’m getting more and more interested in working with. The Pownce client I use was written in AIR. The client looks solid and could be a pretty good alternative to some of the other apps out there.

Twitter Gmail Lookup

posted in Twitter News on 08/28/07 at 12:08 PM

As I posted recently, Twitter is making it easier to find friends on the service. Something I think will help continue to grow. Now they’ve added the Gmail Lookup that allows you to search for friend via your Gmail contacts. A lot of sites are starting to include this feature and it’s an excellent way to let people spam invite friends to join a site or service.

H/T to Nicki, who follows Twitter as much or more than me! ;)

Brabblr

posted in Mashups & APIs on 08/21/07 at 10:08 PM

Brabbler is a pretty slick mashup of microservices like Twitter, Jaiku etc. It’s pretty nice looking, but though they have a sign up form you can’t actually sign up, you have to have an invite code. My main complaint with the site is that some of it is in English, and some isn’t. Pick one ;)

New Twitter Feature: Find People!

posted in Uncategorized on 08/21/07 at 08:08 PM

Biz Stone sent out the latest newsletter from Twitter just a few minutes ago and they’ve added a feature I’ve been looking forward to: People Search. Now you can find out if someone you want to follow is on there or look up friends and collegues. Glad to see this much needed feature to make connecting on the service easier. From Biz:

It’s new feature season and we’re starting with People Search. This new Twitter feature is great for finding more people to follow because it searches profile information such as name, location, bio, and url. Come on by and find out if your friends are already Twittering and you just didn’t now it! The search field is on the right side of Twitter when you sign in: http://twitter.com

Pinger is a new service that works like Twitter but instead of text it uses voice mail. For me, voice requires more focus than text, as odd as that may seem. I can’t do anything else when I’m doing audio or video stuff. However, I can see the appeal of something like this for the commute, during exercise or generally on the go. Audio is ideally suited for those activities and is a big reason I subscribe to podcasts.
