Binny over at Bin Blog has a nice little hack for sending tweets via command line. Anyone running a fairly standard *nix or LAMP setup should have everything you need to do this. Binny is also looking at using Twitter as a time tracking tool and has a nice way to Twitter Offline, or more like store your tweets locally. It’s giving me some ideas! Personally, I want to setup a private twitter account to use as a “note to self” because it’s just so easy to send my notes to. I send myself email notes all the time and if I had one place to “not to self” that was this easy I’d be very happy.

MSNBC is covering Twitter this week with Twitter: Is Brevity The Next Big Thing? I don’t know how long it’ll last but it sure feels like Twitter is the next big thing for 2007. It keeps gaining momentum and I’m very curious to see if it can sustain it and more important what the business model will end up being.

Twitterlicious 1.1.2

posted in Twitter Clients, Windows on 04/02/07 at 06:04 PM

Twitterlicious 1.1.2 has been released with support for the new API changes. Twitterlicious is a Windows client for twitter, which I once had trouble finding. I haven’t had a chance to load this one up, but I’ll work on reviewing it in the next couple of days.

New version of TwitBox (0.5.1) available for download here. This new version looks appears to be primarily a maintenance release with a few bug fixes. This client is well worth checking out if you haven’t yet.

Twitter User Interviewed In The News

posted in In The News on 03/31/07 at 09:03 PM

It’s interesting to see a news channel covering the Twitter hype. Mark Kuznicki was interviewed about Twitter, so I thought I’d at least share the link. I like to see Twitter in the news. Good job!

Debra posted a cool little hack: Hacking the Twitter javascript which makes some improvements on the Twitter JavaScript, the most important being so it won’t hang your page while Twitter data is being retrieved. Which we all know is a very good thing considering how much of a beating Twitter is taking these days.

Very nice little hack indeed.

Update: Debra pointed out that Jonathan over at Plugged out solved the no-hanging problem with the Twitter JavaScript.

TriQQr Screen Shot

Here is another Twitter Client for Windows, though it doesn’t support Vista yet. It’s seems to have the standard features, my favorite being a handy drop down to make it easy to select a friend to send a direct tweet to.

So far it seems a little buggy though, but it’s a beta (early one?). If you mouse over the tweets area and move down, it “crawls” the tweets down. When you move your mouse back up, nothing happens. I looks like they pop back to the top when you get a new tweet, but that’s kind of annoying. You have to click on their name instead of the whole row to see the entire tweet up top and the config icon doesn’t do anything (yet). Most of the screens are icons or English, but the login screen isn’t. No big deal, it’s obvious what they are.

This is version 0.2 so I’m sure this tool will get better. It’s off to a decent start. I’ll certainly keep checking it out.

Download it here.

TwitBox 0.5.0

posted in Twitter Clients, Windows on 03/30/07 at 02:03 PM

New Windows Client, TwitBox, has been released. It’s built on the .NET TwitterCore from RareEdge Design Group, the people and source code behind Twitteroo. Loks like mainly some interface changes with some nifty keyboard shortcuts. I love the double click will put @, a feature I’d like to see ALL Twitter clients use. This client is off to a good start.

Twessenger for Windows Live Messenger

posted in Windows on 03/30/07 at 12:03 PM

Another tool for Windows users, Twessenger, which pulls in your latest tweets into your Personal Message in Windows Live Messenger. It would be cool if you could also send/receive tweets with it, but this is still a pretty neat usage for the Twitter API and/or RSS feeds.

Twitter in Second Life

posted in Mashups & APIs on 03/30/07 at 10:03 AM

Second Life is huge and I’m just now scratching the surface on this massive virtual world. Second Life Developer’s Corner has written a couple of cool apps/mashups for Twitter and Second Life where you can Twitter from within the virtual world. How cool is that?

They have two tools that look interesting. twitterer, which seems more novel than useful, but a great proof of concept. It is cool that you can see Twitter from inside the virtual world this way. But the second tool, The Twitter Wristlet, lets you get your tweets from inside Second Life. I didn’t see if you could send messages or not, but still, the wristlet is pretty slick.
