twhirl is the latest Twitter Client I’ve come across using the Adobe AIR package. AIR makes it possible to run the same code on both Windows and Mac (others?) which I like. I hate finding some cool app and it only be for one system. As a developer, I use Windows, Linux and a Mac and I like finding tools that work on all three systems, which is rare. Adobe’s AIR is a step in the right direction.

twhirl looks like it’s off to a solid start. Just check out these features:

• runs on both Windows (XP/Vista) and Mac OSX
• automatically fetches your friends’ status updates, as well as replies and direct messages for you, into an all-in-one timeline
• color-coding different types of messages
• connecting to multiple Twitter accounts
• keyboard shortcuts
• sys tray / dock icon support
• visual and audible notifications on new tweets, configurable and with preview
• view, add and remove favorites
• shorten long URLs (using snurl.com)
• (un)follow users from twhirl
• automatically checking for twhirl updates
• changeable color schemes
• NEW: retweet a received tweet
• NEW: search public tweets (powered by terraminds)
• NEW: timeline filtering

Looks well worth giving a shot. I’m still looking forward to a client like this that supports Pownce and all the others that have API’s. This way I can post to all my microblogging hot spots at once.

TTYtter for Perl looks like a very promising command line client for interacting with Twitter. Unlike previous CLI clients, this one is interactive and sends / receives tweets in real time. But the feature I look forward to with this client is the built in API to create your own Twitter bots. I’ve had a few ideas of my own for Twitter bots and this could seriously speed up development. Well worth checking out!

Pwytter is a multi-platform Twitter Client written in Python and tklnter. It’s still early, but looks like it’s off to a great start. I like the idea of anything written in a language like Python because it’s what I do for a living ;)

This release is a pretty minor one in most respects as it consists of a few bug fixes and one new feature that has been requested. With the introduction the the new tweet list control in 0.8.0 some folks had a hard time with the color scheme making the list items hard to read. viaTwitBox 0.8.1 - fixing those list colors

This release is primarily a bug squasher release that manages to fix a number of the bugs that were reported for the 0.7.5 release. But just to make things interesting I have included a new feature for you to check out the beginnings of.

0.7.6 brings you the basic beginnings of a History feature that allows you to keep a history of tweets for both the Public and Friends Timelines. This feature can be enabled/disabled on a per Timeline basis from each of the Timeline’s Options area.

Now I say this release on brings the basic feature because I would like to hear back from you folks on what you would like for features in this area. This also includes any ideas for searching that you would like as the next release will include this as well. via WinExtra

I like the addition of Tweet history. Especially for direct message and stuff I’ve sent. Just makes things a little easier when I’m trying to search for something I said.

TwitBox 0.7.5 is ready for public consumption.

Changes for 0.7.5 Release:

* Changed - Replaced tabbed views with a single toolbar access for timelines and options
* Changed - Snagged URL’s are now a display within the main TwitBox window - F7 will toggle display - or use Toolbar button
* Changed - Search has been moved to a seperate dialog - F8 or Toolbar button to display
* Changed - Logging has been moved to a seperate dialog - F10 or toolbar button to display
* Changed - brought back the Keyboard shortcuts dialog
* New - bring TwitBox to foreground (if not minimized) by a single left mouse click on the system tray icon for the program
* New - Individual Timeline options including being able to disable any of the three timelines
* New - You can now turn off the Direct Messages refreshing as well as the other two
* Improved - totally revamped the Hot Flagging Option dialog

It’s been a while since the last version I know but it’s been a busy week. That said the newest version 0.7.2 is now waiting patiently for you to grab a copy from the TwitBox page.

I took some time to bring this version of TwitBox back to the program that people really liked - fast and with features they need. TwitBox is one of my favorite Twitter clients for Windows and I’m glad to see it so actively devloped. I’ll try to post a review after I get a chance to test this version out.

When I first started with Twitter I couldn’t find a Twitter client. Now it’s hard to go a day without finding one! The latest is Twitterer and uses the Microsoft .NET framework like most of the other windows clients.

New version of Twitbox is ready for download. From WinExtra’s site:

# Twitter User Search - I have added the ability to search for the last 20 tweets made by a user. Just supply their screen name and away you go. You can also use this feature when either of the timelines are being viewed by selecting the user in the list and using the keyboard shortcut Alt + S
# You can now turn off the Public Timeline updating using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-P. This shortcut will toggle it on or off. You can also do this by double clicking the Public Timeline refresh status area of the statusbar
# You can select the fonts used for the top Info panel and also the tweet text entry area
# You can set the font color used for URL links; if available, in the top Info panel
# Added a url link to the TwitBox home (here) in the statusbar area

Looking forward to the history function, that’ll be handy.

TwitBox 0.6.1 is ready for download. The new version ads a tabbed view of your personal and public time lines, which is a very welcome addition. It also has some nice customization options so that you can easily tell each time line apart.
