Tweet What You Eat is a pretty cool idea for a Twitter Bot. I’ve lost nearly 35 pounds total and 10 of that in the last 6-7 weeks. I love anything that helps me along that goal and since I use twitter alot anyway,
Tweet What You Eat looks like a fun and easy way to help keep track of what I’m eating. If you’ve never written down what you eat and drink in a day I think you would be shocked at how much you actually consume. Those nibbles here and there add up.

TWYE works just like most bots, you follow, they follow and you direct message them your updates. Here’s their instructions:

  • You make friends with ‘TWYE’ through Twitter. Simply tweet or twit ‘follow twye.’
  • ‘TWYE’ then makes friends with you. In order for that to happen, you must follow the setup steps.
  • You then send direct messages to TWYE with food items you’ve eaten like this, ‘d twye yogurt cup.’
  • Tweetwhatyoueat.com checks the direct messages going to the TWYE account at regular intervals and parses and stores the contents and displays them in your diary.

This looks pretty slick and is already being featured on Lifehacker, so you know it’s going to bet some serious usage.

Cool Bot: Amazon Search

posted in Twitter Bots on 12/03/07 at 01:12 PM

Having a SideKick has made it easy for me to do things on the go that I always wanted to. I’m a big book nerd and so is my wife so we try to save money anytime we can when buying books. So when we are out shopping at th bookstores I always like to see what Amazon is selling it for so I can decide if I want to buy it locally with my book club discount or with my Amazon Prime account (free shipping). I love supporting local bookstores but I spend a lot on books and I’m a big fan of Amazon as well. I saw a tweet today from Writers Write about a cool bot that I can see me using quite a bit. Amazon Search lets you lookup products from Amazon.com. This appeals to my inner book nerd as well as feeds my Twitter / Gadget need.

Twitter Beer!

I know I’ve mentioned ioubeer but I never linked to it. Check out one of the cooler Twitter Bots Foamee. A bot’s a bot but Simplebits brings it’s design style to it and creates something that’s just fun.

Twiter++

posted in Twitter Bots on 11/16/07 at 03:11 PM

From the Twitter blog:

Make your feelings known with plusplusbot. You can ++ (pronounced “plusplus”) or — (”minusminus”) anything. Think brownie points (but archived forever). Here’s how it works:

1. Make sure you have a Twitter account
2. Follow plusplusbot
3. If you love something add ++ after it like this:

coffee++ because it keeps me alert

You’ll get a confirmation message with coffee’s current score, and plusplusbot.com will update itself. (To indicate your displeasure, use — after a target name.)

Another cool Twitter bot indeed. Soon they’ll need to update the character limit just so I can ioubeer++ @someone +twnote an on an on ;)

TTYtter for Perl looks like a very promising command line client for interacting with Twitter. Unlike previous CLI clients, this one is interactive and sends / receives tweets in real time. But the feature I look forward to with this client is the built in API to create your own Twitter bots. I’ve had a few ideas of my own for Twitter bots and this could seriously speed up development. Well worth checking out!

TwitterCal

I think Nicki said it best:

Twitter, meet Google Calendar … Google Calendar, meet Twitter

TwitterCal, if it isn’t already obvious, lets you use Google Calendar via Twitter. Pretty soon I won’t even have to leave Twitter anymore. Not that I do, which I guess is a pretty sad statement itself ;)

Now you can manage your tasks using the Remember the Milk todo webapp via the Twitter micro-blogging service. Huh-wha? In a nutshell, Remember the Milk turns Twitter’s question - “What are you doing?” to “What should you be doing?” via lifehacker

Okay, this is hands down the coolest bot for Twitter yet. A quick and easy reminder system. I like sending myself notes from my phone (or iPhone now!), but nothing forces me to see them in the morning, or when I need to. Now I can twitter myself. Wait, that didn’t sound right. Needless to say, I’ll be using this bot quite a bit.

Very big thanks to Nicki!

Twitter Bots

Twitter Bots are getting their own coverage over at retweet. Some of them are news bots and really aren’t bots at all, more like micro blogs from bigger publications. Still, some are kinda neat, like booktwo, which reads you books one line at a time. retweet does a good job of keeping up with bots though so do check them out.

Twitter Bot: Twitter Timer

posted in Twitter Bots on 05/30/07 at 08:05 PM

Need to remember something? Send me a direct message, and I’ll tweet you back. For example, ‘d timer 45 call mom’ reminds you in 45 minutes.

Twitter Timer is a wicked cool Twitter bot that lest you set a reminder to be sent via Twitter. Very slick usage of the Twitter bot idea. I’m sure I’ll get some usage out of this one!

Twitter Bots!

posted in Twitter Bots on 04/08/07 at 08:04 PM

As people suggested with the recent API change would be the introduction of Twitterbots that give you the ability to tweet a user and get back an automated reply. The result being things like stocks, weather, sports. I got a message the other day on Twitter from the first of these that I know of from Techquila Shots.

They are offering Forecasts, Stocks and Sports Scores (down the individual teams). Pretty slick.
