Seesmic: Like Twitter, but Video

posted in In The News on 01/30/08 at 10:01 PM

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Marshall at Read/Write Web posted Seesmic Transcends Comparisons With Twitter where he discusses both products after conversations held at DEMO. While they products share a common idea at the core, Marshall does a great job of relating how they are both alike and different and I’m not talking just the fact that Seesmic is video and Twitter is text.

Twitter Pack Project

posted in Twitter Tools, Web on 01/29/08 at 09:01 PM

PBWiki is hosting an interesting project for Twitter called the Twitter Pack Project which groups twitter users into “packs” based on interests, locations, companies, events and more. The idea is to help Twitter users find other Twitter users who share the same interests as they do. One thing Twitter lacks is finding people in any meaningful way other than people you already know or by randomly clicking on friends of friends, which isn’t bad, but not the easiest way to find people who might be into the same stuff you are. Twitter Pack looks like a solid effort of making it possible to connect with others with similar interests.

MoodBlast for Mac OS X

posted in Mac, Twitter Tools on 01/25/08 at 12:01 PM

moodblast.jpg MoodBlast is a cool little menu bar app that lets you “blast” your “mood”, or, just a quick blurb, update, link, whatever, to most of the popular social and microblogging platforms including facebook, skype, ichat, jaiku, twitter, and more.

I like the idea of being able to send my updates to all my favorite places and having a light weight app to do that with is even better. Most of the apps that try this tend to try to do to much. This one is perfect for quickly “blasting” an update.

Twitter for Bloggers

posted in Twitter Help on 01/23/08 at 06:01 PM

Darren from Problogger.net writes 9 Benefits of Twitter for Bloggers. Darren lists 9 benefits he’s seen from using twitter, including using it as a Research Tool, Branding, and Promoting Content. I use Twitter in many of the same ways as Darren, though he’s way more popular than me so when he asks a question he’ll get 20 responses and I’ll get 1-ish. ;) I’m working on it!

As always, Darren ads insight to Twitter from the Bloggers perspective and obviously these 9 benefits and work for anyone writing or publishing content online. If you haven’t read it already, get going! 9 Benefits of Twitter for Bloggers

17 Ways To Use Twitter

posted in Twitter Help on 01/21/08 at 09:01 PM

Maki over at Dosh Dosh writes 17 Ways You Can Use Twitter: A Guide for Beginners, Marketers and Business Owners. The tips are a bit down the page after some observations about Twitter, which are also pretty good. I use Twitter pretty frequently, obviously, and I’ve use it for almost all 17 ways Maki outlines in this post. Here’s a short snippet from the article:

I started using it actively and gradually developed an avid interest. I think Twitter is a manageable process that can be adopted for all types of lifestyles, busy or inactive. You’ll just need to integrate it within your normal workflow. It’s addictive but once you understand how to use it, it’ll be a very effective tool indeed.

Having read a great deal of other articles on Twitter, I decided a do a quick summary of all the ways you can use Twitter for both your professional or personal life. Some of these methods go beyond the use of Twitter as a lifestreaming device

Maki goes on to then list the 17 ways to use Twitter, including getting feedback, directing traffic, using it as a to do list, setting up meetings and several more. Make sure to read the full article.

I’ve grown to use twitter in my blogging. Several stories have broke their before they even hit the major blogs and networking with other bloggers has been fun and entertaining at times. Any interesting ways you’ve used Twitter?

Viygo Twitter Tools

posted in Mashups & APIs, Twitter Tools on 01/18/08 at 03:01 PM

Duncan left this tip today:

We are also developing some cool twitter features at viygo.com.

e.g http://www.viygo.com/twitter shows the current public timeline.

or

http://www.viygo.com/twitter/goldman shows a goldman’s most recent posts.

You can also embed these timelines on your own site or web page e.g.

http://duncanmeech.googlepages.com/twitterembeddedtimelines

Duncan’s tools are a great mashup, and I love the granular level at which you can view the Twitter timeline, including your own. It’s pretty slick.

MyTwitter Wordpress Plugin

posted in Wordpress on 01/17/08 at 10:01 PM

MyTwitter allows users to display their Twitter status updates (tweets) on their Wordpress blog and update their status through the Options page. It includes customization options including number of tweets to display and formatting options. It can be called as a function or used as a widget.

I like this plugin for Wordpress that displays tweets on your blog more than some of the others because it allows you to select how many recent tweets to show. I had to hack a previous plugin to do that on my personal site. I’ll have to give this plugin a go. I’m curious if it auto-hyperlinks urls and @username links. That would be a nice feature if not.

Check out MyTwitter for yourself.
